Mom’s to Rock Riverside Park!

On Sunday, May 19^th moms will be rocking at the 10th Annual Mamapalooza Outdoor Extravaganza! This event, sponsored by Natural Awakenings, celebrates mothers and the people who love them with music and an art-filled festival featuring family bands, kids activities, Gymboree play tent, crafts, eco-environmental information, food, vendors, interactive fun, and more! Attendance of 6,000-10,000 people is expected.

Joy Rose, Mamapalooza Inc. Founder, and a dedicated team of event coordinators, artists, and volunteers have been creating events in New York City since the first Mamapalooza festival in 2002, sponsored by Parents and Child Magazine. In 2010, her festivals across America reached 100,000 people, and partner events have been hosted in England, Canada, and Australia.

Every program that Mamapalooza produces puts women, mothers, and families at the center of activities. The purpose is to increase opportunities for women in business, celebrate mother art, and educate the public about the social issues facing families.

Since starting Mamapalooza, Joy Rose has gone on to open the first and only Museum Of Motherhood (M.O.M.) in New York City. M.O.M. is an exhibition and education center dedicated to the exploration of family – past, present, and future. The mission of M.O.M. is to highlight the many roles of women throughout history and in contemporary culture.

The museum is currently located at 401 East 84th St. and is sponsored by local GYMBOREE franchise owners Deb Whitefield and Barry Hanson. It has a community play-space open to the public, and it works with students from a variety of local universities. M.O.M. is currently looking for a larger permanent physical location to further expand its programming.
